What are the actual dimensions of lumber?

The actual dimensions depend on the kind of lumber you are purchasing. In general, rough lumber is the “full cut” and smooth lumber is “nominal.” For instance, a rough 6×6 is actually 6 inches by 6 inches, whereas a smooth 6×6 is 5 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches because of the planer process.

What size board should I use to span X number of feet?

Will you help me design my project?

Yes, we do offer design advice. Our Project Consultants are knowledgeable of the materials we supply and the engineers and designers with whom we work will design your projects for a very fair fee. For some projects, we will provide the engineer services free-of-charge.
